Morocco: the gateway to the Orient
Mosques, minarets and medinas: Greeted by the call of the muezzin, you will set off to discover the delights of the Maghreb in Morocco. Start your journey of discovery with the optional pre-cruise programmes for guests who are interested in Morocco. Visit Marrakech or the imperial cities – the perfect way to get you in the mood for your expedition on board the BREMEN, which will bring this fascinating region to life in fairy-tale fashion from Agadir onwards. Even Scheherazade from the Arabian Nights would have struggled to find words to describe the beauty of Taroudant*, Marrakech’s “little sister”. Here you will discover a labyrinth of souks, known for their many tanneries. A jeep ride into the Massa Valley* will take you past Berber villages, oases and sand dunes.
Following these many wonderful experiences, the BREMEN will take you to Lanzarote. Here you will have the chance to take a walk among the volcanoes*and explore an extraordinary lunar landscape full of craters. There is also the man-made Jardin de Cactus, with around 1,000 cactus species. On the excursion Cesar Manrique and the cactus garden*, you can admire the work of this famous local artist. Here several previously inhospitable volcanic bubbles have been converted into accommodation. It’s a fascinating space – as is the rest of the island world that you will encounter.

Cape Verde islands (Sal , Fogo , Sao Nicolao , Sao Vicente, Santo Antao, Santiago)
Cape Verde – an insider tip
Once settled by the Portuguese and seemingly forgotten by the rest of the world, the Cape Verde islands are perfect for active explorers who, as well as going on various excursions, will also find plenty of opportunities for individual adventures during their cruise with the BREMEN. You will gain your first impressions of the islands on Sal, the sunniest island of the whole archipelago. Its name is a nod to its history – it was once used for salt harvesting, and you will see traces of this during an island tour* that begins in Palmeira. Or you can go on a jeep safari to the wild north*, and marvel at its dry valleys and barren desert charm. Feel the sand between your toes or take a refreshing dip in the Atlantic: at the surfers’ paradise Praia Santa Maria, a kilometre-long beach stretches straight out from the quay. On the island of Sao Nicolao spectacular rugged landscapes promise unforgettable experiences. The small fishing village of Tarrafal is ideal for you to explore on your own and it is also the starting point for a guided walk through the bizarre mountain world*. Here you can savour what is probably one of the most beautiful views of the whole archipelago. The gorgeous island vistas* also feature areas of lush vegetation. Admire the banana, papaya and dragon trees, all against a striking mountain backdrop. The cultural capital of the Cape Verde islands is Mindelo on Sao Vicente. Go on the walking tour of Mindelo* and dive into a cultural melting pot, with the harbour, African market and old town – and leave some time for exploring by yourself. The excursion to Mindelo and the Baia das Gatas* will give you a view across the town from Monte Verde. In the “bay of cats”, strange lava formations bear witness to the mighty elemental forces that shaped this island world. You will see more examples when you go off-road* in jeeps, heading deep inland for views of mountain massifs and volcanic craters. The untamed forces of nature have also given Santo Antao its unmistakable appearance. Dominated by mountains, wind and water, this island is a real paradise for walkers. From Porto Novo, after a panoramic trip, you will experience the pristine island of Santo Antao* on a walk through the verdant Paul Valley. Or perhaps you’re in the mood for a scenic journey*? You will be able to try the traditional “grogue” and learn how it is produced. On the largest of the Cape Verde islands, it is interesting to see how African roots and European influences come together: Santiago – the lush island* promises a fascinating visit thanks to the monuments from its glorious seafaring days, the urban flair of Praia and the old town Cidade Velha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mesmerised by everything you have seen, you will then set off for Senegal on board the BREMEN. This is where your unforgettable expedition will come to an end.
