Breathtaking: Cape Horn, South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
From the legendary Cape Horn, follow the route of the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake through the passage named after him and on to the South Shetland Islands.
Sailing through the Drake Passage
Some unforgettable experiences await on your expedition, such as on Deception Island, where you can take a warm “bath” on the black volcanic beaches. The experience will make your day as the BREMEN continues on her southerly course. You will be treated to a unique view in Paradise Bay: glaciers tower hundreds of metres above and snow-covered mountains line the bay in which icebergs float as high as houses. The team of experts accompanying you will open up new fields of knowledge and even step foot on the Antarctic continent with you – that is, if the weather and ice conditions permit a landing. The further south your journey takes you through the Neumayer Channel, the more impressed you will be by the endless white world of amazing glaciers surrounding you on all sides.

In the tracks of the original explorers of the Antarctic Circle
Spectacular rides and landings with the Zodiacs will take you to enjoy unique close encounters with animals such as Adelie and gentoo penguins, fur seals and petrels. With luck, you will be able to observe the whales in the Penola Strait in all their majestic glory. The excitement on board increases as the ship approaches the Antarctic Circle. On the other side of this legendary line, the BREMEN will be able to take full advantage of her expertise in icy conditions. How far will the ship be able to forge ahead into this inaccessible region? In the clear air out on deck a genuine pioneering spirit prevails, which will also accompany you on the route back north. One of the most impressive shipping passages in the world is the Lemaire Channel. Mountains up to 1,000 metres high hem in the strait of water and seem almost within reach, while a mystical tranquillity prevails.
Other magical moments await when cruising in the Antarctic Sound, where huge tabular icebergs drift silently through the water. Or when the Zodiacs take you ashore, for example on Paulet Island in the Weddell Sea, bringing you right up close to thousands of Adelie penguins. Every day on board passes in the spirit of daring pioneers, such as Otto Nordenskjöld, who once endured great hardship to explore this region. You will also gain an insight into the everyday lives of modern polar researchers on the South Orkney Islands, where, weather permitting, you will be taken ashore in the Zodiacs to visit the Argentinian Orcadas research station (subject to permission).

South Georgia ?
Unforgettable encounters in South Georgia
Three expedition days packed with great experiences lie ahead, when glaciated mountain summits on the horizon announce your approach to this unique animal paradise. Hundreds of thousands of king penguins live on the coasts and hillsides of the island and bring the stunning landscape to life. On up to three trips and landings each day with the Zodiacs, you can experience this rich animal kingdom up close, and see elephant seals fighting over a harem or observe gentoo penguins and thousands of king penguins from a respectful distance. Prominent experts with extensive experience in the Antarctic will be able to tell you all about the fauna and flora. In Grytviken, you will be able to immerse yourself in the exciting history of polar exploration. Visit the tiny whalers’ church built in 1913, and the grave of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose legendary Endurance expedition came to a fortunate end on South Georgia.
