South Georgia – in the kingdom of the king penguin
Set a course for the wildlife of South Georgia. Flexible, spontaneous and impressive, the Zodiacs will be in use several times a day to ensure breathtaking expedition moments and animal observations – for example, when you are standing before a huge colony of king penguins. Thousands upon thousands of these animals inhabit the island’s slopes and coastline. During spectacular landings on three intensive days, including in Salisbury Plain and Gold Harbour, you can also encounter fur seals and ponderous elephant seals on the beaches of the rugged coastline, whilst black-browed albatross and giant petrels nest in the crags. You will be accompanied by various experts including biologists, geologists and glaciologists, who will enhance your once-in-a-lifetime natural experiences with surprising facts. Alternatively, they can make the pioneering days of Antarctic research come to life: at the former whaling station of Grytviken, visit the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton and remember the heroic effort with which this man once saved his team.

Breathtaking: the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
The ice creaks and cracks against the reinforced bow of the ship, and an understanding of the exertions suffered by the pioneers of polar research becomes ever clearer. Where the weather and ice determine a ship’s course, the experienced crew reacts flexibly and spontaneously to give you unforgettable moments in the wondrous world of the Antarctic. The experience determines the day when the BREMEN continues to press southwards. For example, enjoy the caldera of Deception Island and an incomparable view of Paradise Bay: the glaciers tower hundreds of metres in the air and snow-covered peaks surround the bay in which icebergs as tall as a house drift by. The expert team accompanying you will introduce you to new worlds of knowledge and will set foot on the Antarctic mainland with you, weather and ice permitting.
The BREMEN will then head through the Neumayer Channel to Port Lockroy. Visit the eponymous historic research outpost which was run until 1962. The Lemaire Channel is one of the most spectacular shipping passages in the world: the strait is flanked by mountains up to 1,000 metres high which seem close enough to touch, whilst the strait itself is surrounded by a mystical calm.
Cruise through the Drake Passage
The legendary Cape Horn, first navigated in 1616, is a fitting end to your cruise. If the weather and currents are on our side, we will organise one final Zodiac landing. Then you can climb up to the famous albatross memorial dedicated to seafarers of past ages and look back on an unforgettable Antarctic expedition.
