    Iceland (Heimaey, cruises off Surtsey)

    Iceland’s elemental secrets
An expedition ship such as the BREMEN is in its element where Europe remains especially primordial. Here, nature often determines the course of experience-filled days, and the Zodiacs take you ashore where other ships can only sail by. Right at the start, the Westmann Islands off the coast of Iceland reveal their hidden side. Bizarre lava formations, grass-covered hilly landscapes and towering rocks – the largest formerly inhabited island of Heimaey is an El Dorado for adventurers. Kindle your passion on an island tour to the Pompeii of the north with the petrified evidence of the Eldfell eruption in 1973. Afterwards, take the Zodiacs to explore the impressive caves. To witness the miracle of creation before your very eyes, the BREMEN will cruise by Surtsey, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site: only scientists are allowed to set foot on the volcanic isle, which only formed around 50 years ago, to observe how life develops there.

    Faroe Islands (Mykines , Torshavn)

The Faroe Islands – naturally beautiful
The high mountains, rugged precipices and green grasslands of these isolated islands will arouse your interest. The terrain is ideal for around 80,000 four-legged animals that gave the Faroe Islands their name: “the sheep islands”. Weather permitting, we will land on the western island of Mykines and you can tour this untouched world. The capital city of Torshavn also radiates primordial charm. Experience the culture of the Faroese: the small villages of Kvivik and Kollafjördur* will take you back to the age of the Vikings and to a typical Faroese wooden church whilst you marvel at volcanic island formations*.

Scotland (St Kilda , Staffa , Iona )

The British Isles – so near and yet so unknown
The Scottish archipelago of St Kilda in the Outer Hebrides is seldom visited and yet a top destination for the BREMEN. It is the only region in all of Great Britain to be both a UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site, with its impressiveness noticeable from afar with its steep crags rising out of the Atlantic. Accompanied by our experts, you can discover the now uninhabited main island of Hirta, the most remote island in the UK. These impressions will be surpassed in the Inner Hebrides off the island of Staffa: you can take the Zodiacs to the giant basalt Fingal’s Cave which inspired Felix Mendelssohn to compose his overture The Hebrides. In the Zodiacs, you can then land on the secluded island and millennia-old pilgrimage destination, Iona. Scotland’s first cloister was founded on this island. The likewise seldom-visited Isle of Man is shaped by gentle hills and glens and picturesque bays and dunes on a 160-kilometre-long coastline. While exploring the historic Isle of Man*, you can follow the coastline to Castle Rushen, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. It is unique, just like the technological masterpiece the Great Laxey Wheel*, also known as Lady Isabella, which measures approximately 20 metres in height and is featured on the 20 pound note.

    Tuesday, 24.04.2018

    Dublin/Ireland, from 6.30 to 17.15 hrs

Ireland, England, Spain: Dublin’s cultural contrasts
Dublin is an open book on the history of Ireland, whose chapters are reflected in the Georgian architecture, churches and cathedrals. The city tour and the Book of Kells* show you the most exciting aspects and an outstanding work of historic art. The historic Boyne Valley*, presumably older than Stonehenge and the pyramids, is just as impressive.

    Tuesday, 24.04.2018

England (Scilly Isles , Penzance )

A vivid contrast to this unfolds on the British Scilly Isles. After landing on Tresco in the Zodiacs, you will feel like you are in the tropics when you visit the gardens with over 4,000 exotic plants. The neighbouring island is also appealing from a natural perspective and you can experience it when walking on St Mary’s*. Located at the entrance to the English Channel, in Penzance you can view the charming countryside of Cornwall and Land’s End*, not to mention the spectacular view of the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount. Bosvigo House Garden and Trelissick Gardens* impressively attest to the British passion for gardens. Finally, set sail for the other side of Europe entirely: the Iberian Peninsula.

    Vilagarcia/Spain, from 8.00 to 14.00 hrs
