Lofoten (Leknes, cruising in the im Trollfjord)

The mountains of Lofoten also make for an outstanding panorama. The islands are captivating with their tiny bays and idyllic fishing villages. Start in Leknes to explore the stockfish archipelago, in the south of the Lofoten islands*, and learn some interesting facts about Tørrfisk. A walk on Haukland beach* will reveal the true variety of the north. Follow a picturesque trail along the hillside to find an amazing beach with fine white sand and light green water. More spectacular scenery is waiting to be discovered on a cruise through the Trollfjord, the entrance to which is only 100m wide. With luck you might catch sight of some sea eagles hunting for fish.

Fri, 27.06.2014

The fjord separates the Lofoten island group from the Vesteralen islands – another natural paradise. In the idyllic town of Stokmarknes, which is the birthplace of the Hurtigruten coastal express company, you will be able to get an insight into the history of the famous postal shipping line.

Around Spitsbergen (incl. Ny-Alesund , Moellerhafen , Magdalenefjord , Moffen , Liefdefjord , Alkefjellet , passage through the Hinlopen Strait, Braswell Glacier , passage through the Freemansund Sound, Cape Lee , Hornsund )

An adventure for explorers: tour of Spitsbergen
More polar bears than people – Spitsbergen’s unspoiled wilderness is sure to fascinate you. Between the drifting ice floes, the BREMEN will be able to show off its highest ice class for passenger ships to the full – just as the crew will be able to display their many years of polar experience. They may decide to change course at the last minute so that you can marvel at bizarre glaciers or whales emerging from the sea. Depending on the weather and ice conditions, many different landings and Zodiac trips are planned. For example, you will be able to discover Ny-Alesund, from where Amundsen set off in his airship to reach the North Pole, or follow the trail of polar bears around Moellerhafen. Marvel at the glaciers of the Magdalenefjord from the deck or at the Atlantic walruses on the pebble beach of Moffen Island. In Liefdefjord, a Zodiac trip will take you to the Monaco Glacier to see the spectacular glacier edge from a safe distance, before moving on to the impressive bird cliffs at Alkefjellet, the nesting place for tens of thousands of Brunnich’s guillemots. On its passage through the Hinlopen Strait towards the Braswell Glacier, the BREMEN will make its way into a region where walruses and seals are regular visitors. If weather and ice conditions allow, we will travel through the narrow Freemansund channel past Cape Lee – accompanied by the fascinating play of light and colour in the surrounding scenery – until your tour reaches its crowning glory in Hornsund.
