Marvellous Encounters in fascinating Nature
In the middle of the evergreen jungle, more than 4,000 km away from the estuary of the Amazon, your adventure begins in Iquitos in Peru. Unforgettable impressions await you in the overwhelming nature of the greatest rainforest in the world. A perfect region for expeditions in a small ship like the BREMEN and her Zodiacs.

Downstream on the upper Amazon with Zodiac landings (e.g. Libertad, Leticia, Rio Jutai, Cuxiu Muni, Rio Negro)

The weather and currents determine the course of eventful days on which the robust inflatables are in permanent use and bring you to places such as the small Peruvian village of Portugal and the settlement Libertad. Yagua Indians live here, formerly nomads who used to go hunting with poisonous arrows and blow pipes and have now settled along the river. The friendly indigenous people offer their works of art, handicrafts and traditional masks. Leticia is also an important trading point in the border triangle of Columbia, Peru and Brazil. At the markets on the river banks you will be impressed by the diversity of tropical fruits and vegetables before the BREMEN continues sailing down the river into a veritable treasure trove of life. During spectacular Zodiac rides and landings, you will discover the green heart of South America and penetrate even deeper into the jungle along side arms and tributaries like the Rio Jutai. While the Zodiacs glide past bromeliads with stunning bright red flowers, the screams of the Amazon parrots can be heard across the water. You might see a group of blue-and-yellow macaws that have settled in the crown of a tree.
It is not only in Cuxiu Muni that you could catch a glimpse of the famous botos, the pink river dolphins of the Amazon. All around you, you will encounter a fascinating animal world again and again. You will see large-billed terns fishing in the water and saffron finches picking seeds out of the floating water grass. Furthermore, endemic plants like the red passion flower spark off a ”firework“ of colours. You will also experience an unforgettable natural spectacle at the legendary ”Meeting of the Waters“. Where the ”black“ Rio Negro flows into the yellow-ochre Rio Solimoes, the two rivers do not mingle immediately, but flow alongside each other for kilometres. Water level permitting, the BREMEN will intensively explore the pristine river banks of the Rio Negro. In this nature conservation area, you will visit small hidden settlements and relax in the heavenly bays of the river.

Downstream on the lower Amazon with Zodiac landings (e.g. Parintins, Alter do Chao, Guajara)

Experience the rhythm and joy of life of South America in Parintins. With their magnificent costumes and their rousing music, the dancers tell the old legend about the resurrection of a bull. The exuberance of the people can easily compete with the lavishness of nature. Immerse yourself once again in the natural abundance of Amazonia when the BREMEN sets sail for the estuary of the river which is so rich in myths. Butterflies as big as plates dance through the air, tiny hummingbirds silently flap their wings over the water, and from the dense greenery of the jungle, you cannot fail to hear the chorus of many sounds coming from the birds and howling monkeys. On the fine white beach of Alter do Chao, you have the opportunity to sunbathe and swim to your heart’s delight just as you would in the Caribbean. Allow yourself to do absolutely nothing for a few hours and look forward to observing many different species of birds and powerful water buffalos in Guajara.
