Discoveries along the lower Amazon
In Belem you will embark on the BREMEN in order to follow the winding course of the Amazon over a length of 4,000 km. Depending on weather conditions and currents, the Zodiacs operate continuously, and you explore the narrow side-arms of the mighty river that weave their way through the thicket of the jungle and remain hidden from other travellers. In this way you can intensively delve into the secrets of Amazonia – always in the company of experts who will show you the wonders of nature, exactly as in the Breves Channels.

Upstream on the lower Amazon with Zodiac landings (i.a. Guajara, Alter do Chao, Parintins, Canaçari)
In the tropical, lush vegetation on the banks with their Moriche and Açai palms you may perhaps sight swallow-tailed harriers and black vultures, whereas around the small settlement of Guajara you will be able to observe different species of herons and buzzards. The enormous water buffalos that wade so far into the water that they can only just stand and can graze comfortably on the water plants, are an unforgettable sight. The Amazon will surprise you with the virtually Caribbean-type sandy beach in Alter do Chao. Enjoy hours of relaxation on the warm sand and take a refreshing bathe in the emerald-green Rio Tapajos.
Colourful costumes and rousing music – in Parintins the inhabitants celebrate the rollicking dance spectacle “Bumba-meu-boi“. Let yourself be carried away by their exuberant joie de vivre before you undertake a Zodiac tour with great atmosphere near Canaçari . The largest water lilies in the world flower in flooded grass meadows – their circular leaves can reach a diameter of up to 3 m.

With a concert of birdsong and the sounds of the jungle in the background, the BREMEN continues gliding up the river of life until she reaches Manaus. As the centre of the caoutchouc trade, the metropolis came into tremendous wealth during the 19th century, which is reflected in the treasures of the splendid Teatro Amazonas: The costly interior with crystal chandeliers and marble portals was brought to the middle of the jungle from Europe. Investigate the History of the City and the Opera House*, and with the Water plane over Manaus* discover a spectacle of nature from a breathtaking perspective: At the famous “Meeting of the Waters” the “black” Rio Negro and the mud-yellow Rio Solimoes flow for kilometres next to each other in the river bed.

Upstream on the upper Amazon with Zodiac landings (i.a. Badajos, Cuxiu Muni, Rio Jutai, Leticia, Pevas, Nauta)
Deep in the green heart of South America
Only small, easily manoeuvrable expedition ships like the BREMEN can travel up the upper course of the Amazon beyond Manaus. Thanks to its low draught the ship presses onwards in a westerly direction and affords you unforgettable observations of animals and nature. Depending on the local conditions, the crew and the experts will lead you on numerous Zodiac rides and landings right into the middle of the green lung of our planet. Keep a lookout, for instance, near Badajos for the famous pink river dolphins and horned screamers. Numerous hummingbirds whirr through the air, and from the treetops one can perceive the cries of the howler monkeys. Not only in Cuxiu Muni will you visit a typical Indio village – and start out in the late evening for a Zodiac tour on which you will sense the magic of a tropical night very intensively. Listen to the many-voiced song of frogs and crickets, and watch the caimans and nocturnal animals such as bats. With the Zodiacs you will also conquer the Rio Jutai, on the banks of which bright-coloured toucans can be seen and magnificent breeds of orchids indulge the senses. The bustle on the lively markets and the traditional dances and rituals of the inhabitants characterise of the Columbian city Leticia and the Peruvian Indio village of Pevas. To round off your eventful days, the BREMEN dare a very special adventure – she heads towards Nauta. The small village lies so far upstream that it can only be reached when the water level is high. Will the BREMEN manage to penetrate so far? You will not receive your answer till you are back on board – but in any case your expedition, about which you will still enthuse for a long time to come, will come to an end in Iquitos.
