Chile’s fjord world (passage through the Beagle Channel, passing the Garibaldi Glacier, passage through the Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas, Isla Magdalena , Puerto Natales, cruising through the Chilean fjord world, passing the Pio XI Glacier)

Chiles’s Wonder World
Roaring waterfalls plunging into quiet mountain lakes, monumental glaciers rising into the blue sky, and the Andean condor flying majestically over his kingdom - the Chilean fjords are one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the world. The vast and intricate labyrinth of channels and islands seems to have been specifically designed for the small, manoeuvrable BREMEN. Depending on the local conditions, you can look forward to many Zodiac rides during which you will experience the archaic beauty of Chile especially intensively. As soon as you enter the Beagle Channel, fantastic perspectives of the shimmering blue glacial tongue of the Garibaldi Glacier will be revealed to you. Sea birds and fur seals romp around in the vicinity of the mighty ablation zone on the edge of the glacier. You will follow the route of the first person to sail around the world through the famous Strait of Magellan and numerous channels to Punta Arenas. From there, a hike in Magellan National Park* takes you to the heart of a unique flora with Lenga and Coigue trees. On the Isla Magdalena, you will gain fascinating insights into the habitat of Magellanic penguins. In narrow waterways like the Smyth or the Kirke Channel, the BREMEN takes a lot of time to provide enthralling expedition experiences before you enjoy a further highlight after setting out from Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine National Park* is an unforgettable spectacle of creation. Granite rocks, the famous Torres, arise amidst glistening waterfalls, extensive forests and shimmering aquamarine mountain lakes. You may encounter some greater rheas, flamingos and Magellan geese here. Alternatively, you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views during a horseback ride to Milodon Cave*. The BREMEN will also make the most of her advantages as an expedition ship as she continues her voyage through the Chilean fjords. Sailing through channels such as the Union, the Sarmiento and the Inocentes Channel, you will approach an overwhelming wonder of nature: the Pio XI Glacier. It is the largest glacier in the southern hemisphere and one of only a few glaciers in the world that are still growing. Over 6 km wide and up to 75 m high, the bluish white shining ice masses of its ablation zone are a truly magnificent sight.

Puerto Chacabuco (Aisen)

You will also experience impressive moments in Puerto Chacabuco during a hike through the Aiken del Sur Park* with its dense forests and crystal-clear lakes.

Magnificent Nature and Proud Cities
Sublime bays and long sandy beaches - find out for yourself why the island Chiloé is known as an insider tip. The wooden churches of the town of Castro are listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, as are the typical houses built on stilts which you can admire on an island tour*. If the weather is good, you will enjoy a fantastic view of the volcanoes on the mainland.

Sun, 09.03.2014

Puerto Montt

One of these, the snow-topped Volcán Osorno, rises majestically into the sky not far from Puerto Montt. From this small town, you can take in the sights of Chile’s landscape of lakes* during a spectacular excursion or see the impressive Petrohue Waterfalls from the perspective of the Andean condor during the sightseeing flight over volcanoes and lakes*.
