Falkland Islands

Fascinating birds’ paradise Falkland Islands
In order to land on the Falkland Islands, the Zodiac fleet is ready to be launched at your very first destination. During several flexible landings experts will accompany you on hikes through the typical dwarf shrubs and grasses of the islands. Marvel at the head-high tussock grass and the diversity of the bird world. Perhaps even black-bellied storm-petrels, silver teal, albatrosses or Peregrine falcons may suddenly soar up ahead of you, and also rockhopper and Magellan penguins bid you welcome. Stanley, the small island capital, will welcome you with British flair.

South Georgia

Unforgettable encounters in South Georgia
Three expedition days full of great experiences lie ahead of you when glacier-covered peaks on the horizon herald a unique wildlife paradise. Hundreds of thousands of king penguins populate the coasts and slopes of the island and enliven the awe-inspiring landscape. On up to three rides and landings daily with the Zodiacs you will come very close to the abundance of wilflife and can discover elephant seals quarrelling over a harem, or watch gentoo penguins and thousands of king penguins brooding or bringing up their young. Outstanding experts with comprehensive knowledge of Antarctica will familiarise you with the local fauna and flora. In Grytviken you will be immersed in the exciting history of polar research – visit the small whalers’ church dating from 1913 and the grave of the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose legendary “Endurance“ expedition found a happy end on South Georgia.

South Orkney Islands , Weddell Sea , South Shetland Islands , Antarctic Peninsula

On the South Orkney Islands you can learn about the everyday life of modern Antarctic researchers when, in good weather conditions, you visit the Argentinean station Orcadas with the Zodiacs (subject to permission). With any luck you will catch sight of majestic icebergs for the first time off Signy Island.

Thrilling moments in the ice - South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
Where weather and ice dictate the route, only a genuine expedition ship such as the BREMEN can guarantee you the full Antarctic experience being small, manoeuvrable and, thanks to its highest ice class for passenger ships, in a position to even sail through ice floes and pack ice. The ship relentlessly cuts her path in the direction of the Antarctic Peninsula. You will experience magical moments when, for example, the Zodiacs bring you to Paulet Island in the Weddell Sea to be near to thousands of Adelie penguins - or when cruising in the Antarctic Sound, where mighty table icebergs glide silently through the waters. Every day on board commemorates the days of the venturesome pioneers such as Otto Nordenskjöld, who once explored this remote region under circumstances of great deprivation. With their many years of experience in the polar regions of this world, the Captain, crew and the well-versed experts in various specialised topics provide you with enthralling expedition experiences that you will never forget. For instance, you can bathe in hot springs on the black lava beaches of  Deception Island, or marvel at the wonders of  Paradise Bay: With the Zodiacs you will ride past sparkling icebergs to majestic, lofty glacial towers, the crevices of which gleam in a deep shade of blue. When the ice and weather conditions allow a landing, you will tread the Antarctic mainland – a particularly divine moment on your expedition. Further to the south, the passage through the Neumayer Canal will reveal to you fascinating glacier panoramas which are continued in the narrow Lemaire Canal where spectacular peaks on both sides make this waterway one of the most beautiful ships’ passages in the world. In the Penola Strait  the tension on board will rise: How far to the south can the BREMEN actually penetrate? A question that cannot be answered until you are back on board. But during the last landings with the Zodiacs you will be certain to enjoy the full beauty of this Antarctic wonderland. Between icebergs and great colonies of Adelie and chinstrap penguins it is not hard to be astounded – but even harder to say a final farewell.
