Island in the endless sea
It seems to be far from the rest of the world. If the weather allows, on your way from Cape Town to Antarctica you will land at the tiny volcanic island Tristan da Cunha  - for a fascinating insight into the rough life of the approximately 300 people who live here.

South Georgia

South Georgia – the kingdom of the king penguins
Flexibly, spontaneously, impressively – the Zodiacs spring into action several times a day in order to provide you with breathtaking expedition experiences and awesome animal observations. For example, when you stand in front of a gigantic colony of king penguins. Hundreds of thousands of these animals have their habitat on the hillsides and coasts of the island. You will never again forget the multitudinous swarm and the background noise. During spectacular landings on three intensive days, including those in Salisbury Plain and Gold Harbour, you will even encounter sea bears and ponderous elephant seals on the beaches of the rugged coast while black-browed albatrosses and giant petrels nest on the rocks. Renowned experts, including biologists, geologists or glaciologists accompany you and, with many surprising details, help you to consolidate your unique natural experiences, or make the pioneering days of Antarctic research come alive for you: In the former whale-catching station Grytviken you can visit the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton and remember the heroic exertions with which this man once saved his team.

South Orkney-Islands , Weddell Sea , South Shetland Islands , Antarctic Peninsula

On the South Orkney Islands you can learn how modern Antarctic researchers work when, in good weather conditions, you visit the oldest permanently occupied research station in Antarctica, the Argentinean station Orcadas (subject to permission).

Breathtaking – South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula
Experience defines the day when the BREMEN penetrates further in a southerly direction. Your expedition through the Weddell Sea will lead you on a direct path to adventure. Off Paulet Island the ice creaks and cracks against the strengthened bow of the ship and the awareness of what exertions the pioneers of Antarctic research had to face becomes increasingly tangible – for example, when Otto Nordenskjöld’s ship was trapped by the ice in 1903 and his team was forced to spend the winter there under the severest circumstances. Where the weather and ice conditions dictate the course, the experienced crew reacts flexibly and spontaneously in order to endow you with unforgettable moments in the magical world of Antarctica. The same applies to an eventful stop in the amazing white world of the sixth continent in Mikkelsen Harbour. Here you will sight fur seals and Weddell seals and, with any luck, even humpback whales. On the way to Cierva Cove the robust Zodiacs will bring you to a vast glacier. Accompanied by the expert team you will tread the Antarctic mainland – a moment that is just as festive as intensive (depending on the ice and weather conditions). A highlight of a special kind awaits you on Deception Island. The island consists of the ring-shaped remainder of a caldera into which a small, well manoeuvrable ship like the BREMEN can easily steer. Here you will have the only opportunity of bathing on the black lava beach – in the midst of the unreality of Antarctica.

Passage through the Drake Passage

Wed, 08.01.2014

Cape Horn/Chile (depending on the weather)

The legendary Cape Horn, that was first circumnavigated in 1616, memorably rounds off your voyage. A final landing with the Zodiacs succeeds in good weather and favourable current. Then you can climb up to the famous Albatross Monument, a memorial to the seamen of past times – and look back on an unforgettable Antarctica Expedition.
