Alaska’s Inside Passage
You can look forward to experiencing a masterpiece of nature’s making when the BREMEN cruises through the Misty Fjords. Deeply indented fjords, mighty glaciers and rushing waterfalls are home to a unique world of animals. This is where Alaska’s Inside Passage starts – one of the most spectacular shipping routes in the world. One fascinating panorama gives place to another, and as the BREMEN negotiates this narrow and serpentine waterway, it can make the most of its advantages as a small and easily manoeuvrable expeditionary vessel. Starting from Ketchikan, the centre of Alaska’s Native American culture, you can take advantage of the opportunity to Observe bears in the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary* or take a Flight over the Misty Fjords* to experience one of America’s greatest natural treasures in a breathtaking bird’s-eye perspective. Or you can immerse yourself in the Nature adventure in Tongass National Park* and familiarise yourself with the ecosystem of a rainforest of the temperate latitudes. Unforgettable experiences are offered by the picturesquely situated city of Wrangell – for example, when you set off to Observe bears on Anan Creek*, where with a bit of luck you may spot black bears and brown bears in their natural domain; or when you take a Flight over the LeConte Glacier* and enjoy fantastic views of the gigantic Stikine icefield. After the passage of the Wrangell Narrows with their beautiful panoramic vistas of islands and mountains, the BREMEN makes for Juneau, the only state capital in the USA which cannot be reached by road and so is only approachable by boat or by plane. A Helicopter and dogsled tour* gives you the chance of exploring the fascinating Mendenhall Glacier at the gates of the city. A Boat trip* will immerse you in quite a different kind of world, when you listen to the song of the whale with the help of an underwater microphone.

By way of the beautiful scenery of the Inian Pass the BREMEN sets course for the mighty and still active Hubbard Glacier. In the pack ice at the glacier’s cut-off point you will observe bizarre formations of shimmering ice at close quarters. No less impressive is the majestic Chenega Glacier. If the weather permits, you will be able to take in this overwhelming backdrop from on board the Zodiacs, while you observe various species of seal with fascination. In the days that follow, fabulous excursions and Zodiac trips will give you the opportunity of meeting the biggest land predators in the world.

Starting from Kodiak, you may choose to take a plane to the interior of the island – where a Bear safari* gives you the chance, with a modicum of luck and patience, of discovering the mighty Kodiak bear, which can reach a height of 2.8 metres.
